Message from the PTG President:
Dear West Siders,
Welcome back! We are now in the final home stretch of the year. The next two months will be jam-packed with activities culminating in our Moving Up day.
This has been an exciting week of events! On Tuesday, WS celebrated its 224th birthday! A beautiful Dogwood tree, which was generously donated by Daniel Gale Realty, was planted by the Greenskeeper Company in our Garden of Appreciation. The tree was dedicated to Ted and Helen Hilton in honor of their outstanding contributions and commitment to our WS Community.
On Wednesday, the Yearbook Committee finalized and submitted our 2013-14 year book for production. I would like to extend a very especial “Thank You” to Iris Vardy and her amazing committee for an incredible job well done and a “hats off” to all of the parents who helped out by taking and/or uploading pictures which made this such a lovely collaborative effort. Bravo!
Our second WS Run Club started Thursday afternoon with over 30 participants. Mr. Yost and Ms. Fastuca lead an awesome hour of instruction and helpful tips on how to train for, and run, a successful race! Thanks to Cat Bauer for overseeing this wonderful event! On Thursday evening, many of our students and staff participated in the Ed. Tech showcase at the high school. What an inspiration to see all of the wonderful initiatives and incredible work being done by students and teachers throughout all of the buildings in our District!
Our second graders will be joining the LHS second grade today at a presentation of Flat Stanley at the Engeman Theatre thanks to the Cultural Arts Committee.
We are still looking for volunteers for next year. Please contact me if you are interested in helping out the students and Community at WS in any way.
The Shed the Meds program for recycling old, expired or unwanted medications takes place this Saturday at the District Office from 11 AM – 1 PM. Officers will be outside collecting items. Also this Saturday is the DNA Scavenger Hunt through Cold Spring Harbor. The hunt commences at the DNA Learning Center in honor of National DNA Day. The event runs from 12-4 PM.
Mark your calendars for our final PTG Meeting and Thank You breakfast on May 13 at 9:30 AM.
As a reminder, Math NY State testing will take place on April 30 – May 2 for children in grades 3-8. It is recommended that you have your child get a good night’s sleep, eat a hearty breakfast and be to school on time during the testing period.
Fondly, Lolita ELLIS ISLAND: Attention all 5th grade parents!
