Dear West Side Families,

Thank you to all who volunteered for, and participated in, both the Book Fair and Ice Skate Night. Both events were enjoyed by all and your time and dedication to making PTG events a success is greatly appreciated.
We are still seeking a volunteer for the CPC Chairperson position for our 2013-14 school year. Please contact me ASAP if interested.
Congratulations to the 5th and 6th graders whose musical talents shone so brightly on January 28. So many parents expressed that this was one of the best concerts they had seen. Bravo!!
Congratulations also to Mrs. Santoro, the Student Council and WS Teachers whose efforts raised $2000 for the victims of Hurricane Sandy and were featured in a photo op in the Huntington News. A special thanks to all who bought pies!
We are looking forward to seeing you all at our Daddy and Me night this Sunday at 5:30 PM in the WSS. This a very fun evening where the children get to spend quality Dad time while enjoying Bingo, gym time and board games over dinner. Please make every effort to attend.
Remember that school is in session February 18-22. For those who are traveling, please reach out to your teachers ahead of time so that arrangements can be made to help your child ease back into the work they will have missed.
Please join us this Tuesday, February 12 at 9:30 AM for our General PTG meeting hosted by FOCUS. We will be holding an evening meeting at 6:30 PM as well for our working parents who are unable to join us during the morning.
The Nominating Committee to elect the PTG Board for the 2013-2014 school year is now forming. If you are interested in joining this committee, please contact Melissa Newman.
If there is any way in which the PTG can help make your WS experience more fulfilling, please feel free to reach out. We are always happy to address any questions or concerns you may have.
The book fair was a tremendous success. The children were so excited to find
their favorite authors and newly released titles.  There is nothing like coming
home with a good book!  Thank you to all the parents that helped out!

On January 27th, we held our annual West Side Family Ice Skating Night at Syosset Woodbury Rink.  Despite the bitter cold, this was a very well attended Ice Skating Night and the kids had a wonderful time!  Well over 100 family members attended and there were countless scrumptious desserts and snacks donated.  A special thanks to all those who donated their time and baking skills, including Kim Drexler, Ann Churchland, Eileen Burn, Dana Lynch, Linda Tannenbaum, Diana Angelides, Melissa Newman, Mary Striano, Mary Hooks, Amy Kraft and Lori Ann Tyree. Thanks to Dunkin Donuts in Woodbury for their donut donation as well. A very special thanks to all from Grace Cover and Karen Walter, the event chairs!
Our annual Daddy and Me event is coming up on February 10th from 5:30-7:00 PM.  For those of you unfamiliar with this event, it is an opportunity for the Dads to spend quality time with their children grades 2-6.  There will be board games, bingo, basketball, music and lots of food. Pasta dinner will be served. Grandpas and Uncles welcome if Dad is unavailableWe will send an email, if possible, on Sunday if the event is to be rescheduled.
Hello West Side parents!! The yearbook committee is working hard to deliver our children a bright, beautiful (hard bound) yearbook…but we need your help!!  We need pictures for the yearbook of all grades and events.  Halloween, movie night, WS kids care, classroom events, etc. are welcome.  We would like to ensure all of our children are included in this special memento of their year at West Side.  Below you will find a link to the yearbook site as well as complete instructions for uploading into our community library (don’t forget to tag your photos with the event and/or grade).  It is really easy to do, the site walks you through the process and it takes only a few minutes to register and upload.   Unfortunately, we cannot accept hard copies or emailed pictures.  Please contact me if you need any assistance with upload.  milanakat@yahoo.com

The 2nd Graders HIHI Sandwich Making event was a great success.  Thanks very much to Eddie, Peter, & Lorena Munyak and Sarah & Graham Lynch for putting the lunches together.  Further thanks to the Munyak, Jusko, Franklin and Schmidt families for donating supplies.  Our 4th and final sandwich making event will be for the 5th and 6th graders on March 4th.  More information to follow.
We had a huge turnout of 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade volunteers who spent their recess creating posters to decorate the school for Genuine Acts of Kindness Month.  These 70 posters will remind our students what a big difference can be made with very little effort.  They are creative, colorful and positive!  Thanks to all.
Please remember to help out all those children who visit the Tri Community & Youth Agency in Huntington Station by donating to West Side’s Food Pantry.

The Talent Show is less than a month away.  Everyone who has music in their act, and did not hand in a CD, should have received an email from me with their music edited down to 2 minutes. If you haven’t received an email, please let me know ASAP.  An email was sent to all performers indicating which rehearsal date they have been assigned to, either Feb 12 (Act 1) or Feb 14 (Act 2).  Rehearsal is scheduled right after school in the Westside Gym.  The rehearsal should run about 1½ hours, be prepared to pick up your child around 4:45. Your child must bring in a pick-up note to stay after school.  There is a talent show parent volunteer meetingafter the PTG Meeting (9:30 am) on Tuesday Feb 12 in the community room at Westside. If you are unable to make the meeting but still want to help, please email meRandi_Weiss@hotmail.com.  The dress rehearsal is scheduled for Thursday, February 28 at the CSH High School performing arts center right after school.  A stage crew meeting will take place for all student volunteers the same day at the PAC at 3:30 (you must sign up in advance).  You are responsible for getting your child there and picking them up after the rehearsal (please remember your pick up note).  This is a mandatory rehearsal and all performers must attend.  We will be running the rehearsal with lights, music and sound, so please be patient and don’t ask if you can leave early.  The quality of the show is up to all of you, so practice, practice, practice; it’s going to be an amazing show…the best show yet!
