Message from the PTG President:

Dear West Siders,
We hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving break surrounded by the ones you love. We wish you all a safe and happy holiday season.
Congrats to the winners of the math problem of the month. Our October winners of a movie gift card were: Grade 3: Jenna Bruzzese
and Grade 4: Kami Cotek. Our November winners were: Grade 3:Sutton Stella and 6th Grade:Max Franz.
December brings in our holiday boutique, holiday cookie bake, holiday toy drive and our WSSTA musical “Fiddler on the Roof.” During the holiday boutique our kids are able to shop for the holiday season. Our holiday cookie bake chairperson(s) are asking for volunteers to donate baked goods or cookies so they can create gift boxes filled with delicious cookies for our WS staff. It’s a special token of our appreciation and brings a smile to their faces. Our WSKC holiday toy drive is in full swing and we are asking for toy donations to put a smile on those kids living in our surrounding community who are less fortunate. Many of our 5th and 6th graders will perform “Fiddler on the Roof” at the PAC. Please bring your entire family to enjoy this production and support the arts at WSS. Tickets are $5. We hope to see you at some of these events.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Warmest Regards,
Ana

Cultural Arts:Todd Strasser will be visiting our school on Dec 16th! Author of 140+ novels for young people, including the “Help! I’m Trapped In… ” series for upper elementary and “The Wave” and “Fallout” for middle and high schoolers, Todd Strasser’s enriching presentations inspire and motivate average and reluctant readers and writers as well as the gifted and talented. His talk will emphasize the writing process, especially the importance of pre-writing, drafting, editing and revising.

West Side Kids Care: West Side Kids Care hopes you can keep our holiday toy drive in mind when you do your shopping this year! The annual drive will help our neighbors at Helping Hands Mission. This year, the Mission is in need of articles of warmth (hats, gloves, scarves) for each age group. It would be very helpful if you could include one of these items with your gift. We request donations be made by December 15th and wrapping will take place during recess on December 16th. As always, all are welcome to come in and help the children wrap. If you would like to contribute, the needs are as follows:

Mrs. Ryan/Mrs. Santoro: Girls ages 0-2 stuffed animal/small age appropriate toy

Mr. Farmer/Dr. Dawkins: Boys ages 0-2 stuffed animal/small age appropriate toy

Mrs. Dopico/Ms. Dudek/Mrs. Manning: Girls ages 3-5 small baby doll/ small age appropriate toy

Mr. Arloff/Mrs. Scanlon: Boys ages 9-12 small Legos, action figures, sports ball, cars

Ms. Agnello/Mrs. Gerver/Mrs. DeRosa: Girls ages 9-12 lotion, perfume, nail polish set/small craft item

Toys will be collected in your child’s classroom. Please contact Lauren Jasinski (jasinski.lauren@gmail.com) or Jordan Smith (jordan_kenna@yahoo.com) with any questions. Thank you for your generosity. Happy holidays!

Holiday Boutique 2016- This year, the children will be shopping with their classes on Wednesday, December 7th and Thursday December 8th during school hours. A schedule of when each class will shop was emailed, posted on the Wss Ptg facebook page and sent home via backpacks. If you have any questions, please contact Edra Tepper edratepper@verizon.net

Our West Side Apparel designs are ready. Samples of sizes will be on display during the Holiday Boutique. There will also be West Side pom pom hats and socks for sale, cash and carry. Place your orders by December 9th. Here is the link: http://www.sync-sports.com/west-side

WSSTA presents “Fiddler on the Roof”- Please come and support our 5th & 6th grade West Siders as they perform the popular musical “Fiddler on the Roof” at the PAC on Saturday, Dec. 10th @7PM and Sunday, Dec. 11th @2PM. Tickets are $5.

Holiday Cookie Bake: Our annual holiday cookie bake is Thursday, December 15th. We are making 60 cookie platters this year. Every staff member at WSS will receive a box of cookies/baked goods to enjoy. Please drop off five dozen or more cookies to the community room between 8 AM and 10 AM on Thursday. We will start making platters at 10am. Homemade cookies or bakery are preferred. We always have too many chocolate chip cookies, so please consider baking something different. Also, Frosting or other soft type baked goods get messy and tend to crumble. Please bring the cookies on disposable trays/platters. Thank you again and happy baking!!! Any questions please email either Katie Zarboutis kzarboutis@gmail.com or Denise Ioannou at dv44@aol.com
