Message from the PTG President:Dear West Side Families,
Welcome back to school! We start our new school year with 11 new families, a third section in third grade and a new Gym teacher. Welcome all new families, Mrs. Manning and Mr. Yost. Our children received a nice surprise on their first day back as they participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony dedicating our newly renovated Gym to Mr. Hilton, our beloved past Principal. We had a wonderful Reading celebration last Friday and are looking forward to a great turn out for participants in our WSTA play, The Wizard of Oz! We would like to thank Vicky Roberts for planting the lovely flowers in the planters around the building which made West Side look beautiful for opening day! We would also like to thank Schlick Design Group for trimming and adding flowers to the center island. What a great turn out for our first PTG meeting! It was so heartwarming to see old friends and make new acquaintances. Our year promises to be jam-packed full of fun and excitement. Looking forward to seeing everyone at Back to School Night! Fondly, Lolita MESSAGE FROM THE VP COMMITTEES: We are in desperate need of chairs for the following committees: Cultural Arts, Holiday Boutique, Banking and Yearbook Please, we need chairs to run these committees!! I am not too proud to beg when it comes to events for our kids. They cannot run without a chair and volunteers. If you have any questions about running these committees, please feel free to call me or email me and I will be happy to explain the time commitment and how the event has run in the past. Thank you for your time. Ana Shammah 516-805-9143 or email ana18@verizon.net WS WIN: SAVE THE DATE: OCTOBER 18 Invitations are in the mail. Please send in your checks and response cards ASAP. It was a huge success. I hope everyone enjoyed the planting process and the yummy veggies that were grown. This year’s annual Tomato Sauce Day was held today. We used tomatoes and herbs from the garden to make sauce which the children sampled during their lunch period. Once again, thank you to all the volunteers that participated in making the West Side Garden such a success. Fondly, Melissa Newman, Class Parent Liaison WEST SIDE THEATRE ASSOCIATION: We are very excited about this year’s West Side production of THE WIZARD OF OZ. The play is open to all 5th and 6th grade students. Auditions were held on Thursday, Sept. 19th, right after school in the gymnasium from 3:15 PM-5:15 PM. Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, Sept 24th from 3:15 PM-5:15 PM. Rehearsals will begin Thursday Sept. 26th in the gymnasium. PARENTS please note that, consistent with years past, your child must commit to the entire length of each rehearsal on Tuesdays and Thursdays (3:15-5:15 PM), in order to be cast in the show, with the exception of religious school commitment. ALL students who meet the above requirement will get a part in the show. ONLY TWO ABSENCES ARE ALLOWED BEFORE THE ROLE IS RE-CAST. For those children who have scheduling conflicts, we are offering a more limited way to participate, please refer to the website for more information at http://www.wssta.org. For the audition on Sept 19th, as a group, the girls will be taught the song, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and the boys will be taught, “If I Were King of the Forest.” The children will then be asked to sing the song solo. You can download a copy of the song through the website under “Auditions.” All children auditioning must bring a completed parent/performer contract (www.wssta.org) along with a 4 x 6 picture and a check for $75. Please encourage your child to be a part of this wonderful production; they will cherish it as a lasting West Side memory forever! WSS Brief/Web Site – The WSS Brief will be published every two weeks. Please go to our web site www.wssptg.com and sign up to receive our blog. Please submit entries for inclusion no later than the Sunday evening of the week that the brief is due to be published. Thank you! |
